Captain Alvanites

Alvanites of Trebizond (died 1094) was an Anatolian nobleman who was the lord of Trebizond (present-day Trabzon, northern Turkey) from 1080 until his death in 1094. He fought in the Seljuk Civil Wars as the leader of the Anatolian Rebels in the north, but he was conquered by Khalil of Anatolia and killed.

Biography[]

Captain Alvanites was a leader of the Anatolian Rebels, and served as the garrison commander of the city of Trebizond in present-day Trabzon, northern Turkey. In 1080 he was one of the former subjects of the Seljuk Empire that became an independent lord, so Sultan Jalal ad-Dawlah dispatched an army of Seljuk troops under Khalil of Anatolia to reclaim the city. Alvanites was besieged in Trebizond and killed when the Turks assaulted the city.
