Alsace

Alsace is a region of eastern France that borders Germany to the east and Switzerland to the south; Strasbourg is the capital. Alsace was once dominated by Germans, and it was once ruled by the Holy Roman Empire and the German Empire, losing the region to France many times. In 1918, France regained Alsace from Germany after World War I, and Alsace's population primarily spoke French. In 2013, Alsace had a population of 1,868,183 people.
