
Alparslan Altan (1968-) was a member of the Constitutional Court of Turkey.
Biography[]
Alparslan Altan was born in 1968 in Sarikamish, Turkey to a Sunni Muslim family of Turks, and he graduated from the Istanbul University Faculty of Law in 1989 before becoming a lawyer and judge in 1993. Altan was known for his seminars on human rights issues in the European Court of Human Rights, and he wrote articles on private law. On 26 October 2011, he became the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court, and on 16 July 2016 he was arrested by Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government after the 2016 Turkish coup attempt.
