Alopex was an Elean Greek criminal who led a gang of street children in Olympia during the 5th century BC. In reluctant partnership with the Athenian captain Pitholaos, Alopex had the street children pickpocket travelers and bring in their drachmae; Alopex often posed as the "Great Ouzo", a fortune teller, to distract his victims as the children pickpocketed them. He tried to rob the mercenary Kassandra in 428 BC, but Kassandra chased down the pickpocket Maia and learned of Captain Pitholaos' abuses. Kassandra resolved the matter by murdering Pitholaos and ignoring Alopex, whom Maia later told Kassandra was kind to her in spite of the Athenian's harshness.
