Alonzo M. Clark

Alonzo Monroe Clark (13 August 1868-12 October 1952) was the Republican Governor of Wyoming from 18 February 1931 to 2 January 1933, succeeding Frank Emerson and preceding Leslie A. Miller.

Biography[]

Alonzo Monroe Clark was born in Flint, Indiana in 1868, and he was raised in Dawes County, Nebraska, where he served as superintendent of schools from 1898 to 1901. He moved to Campbell County, Wyoming in 1901, and he served as Secretary of State from 1927 to 1935 and as Governor from 1931 to 1933 following Frank Emerson's death. He supported President Herbert Hoover's policy of "rugged individualism" and the repeal of Prohibition, and he lost re-election in 1932 and died in 1952.
