Alonzo Jay Edgerton (7 June 1827-9 August 1896) was a Republican US Senator from Minnesota from 12 March to 14 November 1881, interrupting William Windom's terms.

Biography[]

Alonzo Jay Edgerton was born in Rome, New York in 1827, and he became a lawyer in Mantorville, Minnesota in 1855. He served in the state senate from 1858 to 1859, as colonel of the 67th United States Colored Infantry Regiment during the American Civil War, as a railroad commissioner from 1871 to 1874, in the state house, in the US Senate in 1881, and as a district court judge in Mitchell, South Dakota from 1889 until his death in Sioux Falls in 1896.
