The Almeida crime family was a Cuban crime syndicate that was led by Don Esteban Almeida, a high-ranking Cuban government official. In exchange for Almeida's support for Fidel Castro and the Cuban Revolution, Castro allowed for Almeida to have a monopoly on organized crime, and his family abstained from political corruption in exchange for having political immunity. In 1959, Almeida declared war on Trapani crime family boss Dominic Corleone after he attempted to assassinate Castro for the CIA, leading to the Trapanis taking over all of the rackets in Havana. The Almeidas were ultimately defeated and wiped out by Dominic Corleone's family, which bombed their massive fortress compound and killed Don Esteban. After the Almeidas' elimination, the Trapanis controlled all crime in Havana.
