Allan T. Smith

Allan Thomas Smith (1841-) was a US Army captain who was stationed at Fort Wallace in South Dakota during the 1890s. In 1899, he and his comrades cornered the escaping outlaws Dutch van der Linde and Arthur Morgan on a cliff above the Cheyenne River after the Battle of Firwood Rise, but the outlaws escaped by jumping from the cliff and into the river. He is related to "Lakota" Bob Smith. He served in the American Civil War, Plains Indian Wars, Apache Wars, Wapiti War, Black Hills War, Spanish-American War, World War I.
