Allan Fung

Allan Wai-Ket Fung (25 February 1970-) was the Republican Mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island from 5 January 2009 to 4 January 2021 (succeeding Michael Napolitano and preceding Kenneth Hopkins).

Biography[]

Allan Wai-Ket Fung was born in Providence, Rhode Island in 1970 to Chinese immigrant parents from Hong Kong. He served as a prosecutor and as government relations counsel for MetLife before being elected to the Cranston City Council in 2003 and serving as Mayor from 2009 to 2021. Fung was the first Chinese-American mayor in the state, and he identified as a fiscally conservative, moderate Republican who promoted bipartisanship, supported civil unions, supported abortion rights, opposed gun control, and opposed Donald Trump's travel ban on citizens of several Muslim countries.
