The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is an Indian socialist political party based in West Bengal. The party split from the Indian National Congress, with Mamata Banerjee founding the party in 1998. In 2007, the party took part in violent resistance against the government when it attempted to evict 70,000 people from their homes in Nandigram, but its Tripura branch declined as hundreds and thousands of party workers and officials defected to the Bharatiya Janata Party daily. In 2017, the party held 34/545 Lok Sabha seats and 12/245 Rajya Sabha seats.
