Alice Proctor

Alice Proctor was an English settler of the Colony of Virginia during the 17th century. She and her husband John Proctor came to Virginia during the early 1600s, her husband in 1609 and herself in 1621. For three weeks from March to April 1622, she took up her husband's gun to defend the colony at Henricus while her husband was back in England, and she was later forced to abandon her house by the English authorities after Henricus was ordered to be evacuated in the face of Opechancanough's Powhatan offensive. She and her husband were later mired in legal troubles for killing two of their indentured servants, and she inherited his estate on his death in 1627.
