The Alliance for Work, Justice, and Education, often known simply as Alianza, was a party coalition in Argentina that was active from 1997 to 2001. The coalition consisted of the Radical Civic Union, the Front for a Country in Solidarity, and several smaller provincial parties. The party presented itself as a progressive, moderate center-left alternative to the neoliberal government of Justicialist Party leader Carlos Menem. In 1999, Alianza leader Fernando de la Rua was propelled to the presidency, but he was unable to tackle corruption or to revive the receding Argentine economy. Riots in December 2001 forced De la Rua to resign, and the alliance disintegrated.
