Ali Saeed al-Ahmadi was a Southern Movement spokesman during the Yemeni Civil War. In a July 2015 interview with Vice News, he drove the Vice journalist around the city to show him the devastation wrought by the Battle of Aden. He said that the movement had originated as a peaceful cause in 2007, but that they were forced to assume a defensive position during the civil war.
