Ali Karmi

Ali Karmi (died 2015) was a Palestinian Hamas commander who, in 2015, collaborated with the Israelis in exchange for the admittance of his sickly daughter to their higher-quality Hadassah Hospital. As a result, he was executed by his protege Taufiq Hammed.

Biography[]

Ali Karmi was born in the West Bank of Palestine to a family of Muslim Arabs. He became a leading Hamas commander, mentoring Taufiq Hammed, who came to see Karmi as a father from the young age of 16. Karmi once hid Hammed while the IDF engaged in a manhunt for him, resulting in the IDF destroying his home and humiliating him before his family.

In 2014, Karmi planned to smuggle nerve gas through Aqaba and explosives through Syria in preparation for a major terrorist attack against Israel, but he was kidnapped from his mosque by Mossad agents and interrogated. Mossad offered to help him provide better-quality medical help for his sickly daughter than he could find in the Palestinian Authority, but only if Karmi gave up the name for the man who would carry out the upcoming bombing attack. Karmi identified Hammed as the mastermind, resulting in a failed assassination attempt on Taufiq that left his brother Bashir Hammed and Hamas commander Amjad Abu Khalef dead. A later interrogation with Mossad forced Karmi to agree to lead Mossad to Hammed by vistiing him at his safehouse. Karmi was confronted by several Palestinians who accused him of being a "traitor", suspecting him of informing on Hammed, but Karmi met with Sheikh Awadalla and persuaded him to take him to Hammed and prove to the people that he was no traitor. Taufiq could not accept that Karmi was a traitor, and agreed to meet with his old mentor at the courtyard.

In the ensuing meeting at an abandoned industrial building, Karmi embraced Taufiq after the latter calmed down his concerns about being labeled a traitor, but, shortly after, a team of Mista'arvim operatives tracked down Taufiq through Karmi. A few of the Hamas terrorists ambushed and captured Boaz Capon, compromising the operation. Karmi was executed by Taufiq's bodyguards, and Taufiq and his men escaped in time for the rest of the Mista'arvim team to discover Karmi's body, and that Capon had been abducted.
