
Ali Kalora (30 May 1981-18 September 2021) was an Indonesian Islamic militant leader who led the Mujahidin Indonesia Timur from 2016 until his death in 2021, succeeding Abu Wardah Santoso.
Biography[]
Ali Ahmad was born in Poso, Indonesia on 30 May 1981, and he renamed himself Ali Kalora after his home village of Kalora. He became a follower of Abu Wardah Santoso, the leader of the Mujahidin Indonesia Timur terrorist group, serving as a guide for other militants before taking over the MIT's leadership on Santoso's death in 2016. He waged an insurgency in the jungles around Poso and Parigi Moutong, leading 10 guerrillas in attacks on police stations and Christian communities from 2019 to 2020. By March 2021, he was reportedly willing to surrender, but was threatened by other factions within his group. On 18 September 2021, he and fellow MIT commander Jaka Ramadhan were killed in a shootout with Indonesian soldiers and police in central Sulawesi during Operation Madago Raya.
