Ali Hamza al-Bahlul (born 11 September 1969) was a Yemeni member of al-Qaeda.

Biography[]

Ali Hamza al-Bahlul was born on 11 September 1969 in Hudaydah, Yemen. He became al-Qaeda's public relations director, and he made propaganda videos glorifying attacks against the United States. al-Bahlul also set up a radio receiver so that Osama bin Laden could listen to news reports about the 9/11 attacks in September 2001. In 2002, he was captured and detained in Guantanamo Bay, but in 2013 his conviction was overturned.
