Ali Bagheri Kani (October 1967-) was Foreign Minister of Iran from 20 May 2024, succeeding Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Biography[]
Ali Bagheri was born in Tehran, Iran in 1967, the son of Mohammad-Bagher Bagheri and the nephew of Mohammad-Reza Mahdavi Kani, and he became a diplomat in 1990. He served as Deputy Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council from 2007 to 2013, as a SNSC advisor, as the lead negotiator with the United States in a September 2023 prisoner release deal, and as Foreign Minister after Hossein Amir-Abdollahian's death in a helicopter crash in 2024.
