Ali Abdullah Ayyoub

Ali Abdullah Ayyoub () was the Chief of the General Staff of the Syrian Arab Army from 18 July 2012, succeeding Fahd Jassem al-Freij.

Biography[]

Ali Abdullah Ayyoub was born to a family of Alawites, and he joined the Syrian Arab Army in 1972. In 2012, with forty years of military experience behind him, he was appointed as Chief of the General Staff of the SAA and became involved with the government's attempts to reclaim rebel-held areas of Aleppo and Damascus in the Syrian Civil War.
