
Alhred of Northumbria (725-775) was King of Northumbria from 765 to 774, succeeding Aethelwald Moll and preceded Aethelred I.
Biography[]
Alhred was born in 735, a member of the royal family of Ida of Bernicia through his father Eadric. Alhred seized the throne in 765 by deposing Aethelwald Moll, and he fought against the Picts to the north. In 774, Alhred was ousted from York and deposed, and Aethelred became the new king. Alhred was forced to flee to Pictland, where he died in 774.
