Alfredo Palacio (22 January 1939-22 May 2025) was President of Ecuador from 20 April 2005 to 15 January 2007, succeeding Lucio Gutierrez and preceding Rafael Correa.
Biography[]
Alfredo Palacio was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador in 1939, and he studied in Ecuador and the United States. He worked as a cardiologist and a university lecturer before being picked as Colonel Lucio Gutierrez's 2002 vice-presidential running mate. After Gutierrez's resignation in 2005, Palacio held a constitutional assembly to amend the country's 1998 constitution, saying that the country was in need of "intensive care." He left office in 2007 with a 29% approval rating.
