Alfred Mineo

Alfred Mineo (1880-5 November 1930) was the boss of the Gambino crime family from 1928 to 1930, succeeding Salvatore D'Aquila and preceding Frank Scalice.

Biography[]

Alfred Mineo was born in 1880 in Sicily, and he came to the US city of New York City during the early 1900s, becoming a member of Giuseppe Morello's gang. Mineo became the captain of Morello's crew in Brooklyn, and he later joined Salvatore D'Aquila when he split from the main gang to form his own family. On 10 October 1928, Mineo had D'Aquila murdered after losing faith in D'Aquila's leadership, with Mineo and Steve Ferrigno believing that the true boss of New York was D'Aquila's rival, Joe Masseria. Mineo took over the D'Aquila organization and aligned himself with Masseria against Salvatore Maranzano during the Castellammarese War of 1929-1931. On 15 August 1930, after the murder of Morello by Marazano, Mineo became Masseria's new war chief. On 5 November 1930, both Mineo and Steve Ferrigno were gunned down in the courtyard of their apartment building by Maranzano gunmen shooting from a window.
