
Alfonso V "the Noble" of Leon (994-7 August 1028) was King of Leon from 999 to 1028, succeeding Bermudo II of Leon and preceding Bermudo III of Leon.
Biography[]
Alfonso was born in 994, and he was the son of Bermudo II of Leon and Elvira Garcia of Castile. Alfonso succeeded his father at the age of five in 999, and he was raised by his mother and count Menendo Gonzalez in the Kingdom of Galicia, which was in personal union with Leon under Alfonso. Alfonso was responsible for rebuilding northern Spain after long periods of civil war and Moorish invasions, and he also led the fight back against the Muslims. On 7 August 1028, he was slain by Muslim archers during the siege of Viseu.
