Alexander of Byzantium (870-6 June 913) was the Emperor of the Byzantine Empire from 912 to 913, succeeding Leo VI of Byzantium and preceding Constantine VII of Byzantium.
Biography[]
Alexander was born in 870 to the House of Makedon, a dynasty of Orthodox Christian Greeks. Alexander was the son of Emperor Basil I of Byzantium, and he was crowned co-emperor of the Byzantine Empire in 879. When his brother Emperor Leo VI of Byzantium died in 912, Alexander succeeded him as emperor, although Leo prophesied that he would die after thirteen months of ruling. Alexander died of exhaustion after playing a game of polo on 6 June 913.
