
Alexander Vladimirovich Yakovenko (21 October 1954-) was the Russian Ambassador to the United Kingdom from 7 January 2011 to 26 August 2019, succeeding Yury Fedotov and preceding Andrey Kelin.
Biography[]
Alexander Vladimirovich Yakovenko was born in Gomel, Byelorussian SSR, Soviet Union in 1954, and he served in the Soviet diplomatic service (including on the Permanent Mission of the USSR to the United Nations in New York City) before joining the Russian diplomatic service. In 2011, President Dmitry Medvedev appointed him Ambassador to the United Kingdom, and he wrote several comment and opinion pieces for the Daily Telegraph to clarify his diplomatic position. He was replaced by Andrey Kelin and was appointed to head Russia's Diplomatic Academy.
