Alexander V of Macedon (320 BC-294 BC) was King of Macedon from 297 BC to 294 BC, succeeding Philip IV and preceding Demetrius I Poliorcetes.
Biography[]
Alexander was the third and younget son of Cassander and Thessalonica of Macedon, a half-sister of Alexander the Great. He and his brother Antipater II of Macedon became co-rulers of Macedon following their father's death in 297 BC, but Antipater murdered their mother and ousted Alexander from power. Alexander turned to Pyrrhus of Epirus and Demetrius I Poliorcetes for help in recovering the throne, promising Pyrrhus extra lands in exchange for his assistance. Demetrius' intervention soon became unwelcome among the Macedonians, and Alexander plotted to have Demetrius killed at a banquet; however, Demetrius' precautions saved his life. Alexander himself would be murdered at a dinner with Demetrius in Larissa in 294 BC.
