Alexander Samuel Diven (10 February 1809-11 June 1896) was a member of the US House of Representatives (R-NY 27) from 4 March 1861 to 3 March 1863, succeeding Alfred Wells and preceding Robert B. Van Valkenburgh. He was also a Union Army Brigadier-General during the American Civil War.

Biography[]

Alexander Samuel Diven was born in Catharine, New York in 1809, and he became a lawyer in Elmira in 1831. He served in the State Senate from 1858 to 1859, in the US House of Representatives from 1861 to 1863, and as a Union Army Brigadier-General during the American Civil War. He became involved in the railroad business after the war, and he died in 1896.
