Alexander Romanchuk

Alexander Vladimirovich Romanchuk (15 April 1959-) was a Lieutenant-General of the Russian Army during the Syrian Civil War and Russo-Ukrainian War.

Biography[]

Alexander Vladimirovich Romanchuk was born in Luhansk, Luhansk Oblast, Ukrainian SSR, Soviet Union in 1959. He rose in the ranks of the Soviet Army and Russian Army, becoming head of the Combined Arms Academy, commander of the 29th Guards Combined Arms Army, chief military advisor to the Syrian Arab Army during the Syrian Civil War, and deputy commander of the Southern Military District during the Russo-Ukrainian War. Romanchuk oversaw the preparations for the 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive in southern Ukraine, resulting in the Ukrainians suffering heavy losses. He was reportedly seriously injured in a Ukrainian Storm Shadow missile strike on the Black Sea Fleet's Sevastopol headquarters during "Operation Crab Trap" in 2023.
