Alexander Mebane (26 November 1744 – 5 July 1795) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-NC 4) from 1793 to 1795, succeeding Hugh Williamson and preceding Absalom Tatom.

Biography[]

Alexander Mebane was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1744, and he moved to Hawfields, North Carolina when he was ten. He served as a delegate to the Provincial Congress and as a justice of the peace in 1776, as the first Sheriff of Orange County in 1777, and auditor of Hillsborough from 1783 to 1784. He then served in the US House of Representatives from 1793 until his death in 1795.
