Alexander I of Scotland

Alexander I of Scotland (1077-23 April 1124) was King of Scotland from 1107 to 1124, succeeding Edgar and preceding David I.

Biography[]

Alexander was born in Dunfermline, Fife, Scotland in 1077, the fifth son of Malcolm III of Scotland and Margaret of Wessex, and the brother of Edgar and David I. On Edgar's death in 1107, Alexander became King, while David was granted lands in southern Scotland and the former kingdom of Strathclyde. Alexander was a pious king, founding churches at Scone and Inchcolm. He died at Stirling in 1124 and was succeeded by David.
