Alexander Gillon (1741-6 October 1794) was a member of the US House of Representatives (DR-SC 5) from 4 March 1793 to 6 October 1794, succeeding Thomas Tudor Tucker and preceding Robert Goodloe Harper.
Biography[]
Alexander Gillon was born in Rotterdam, United Provinces in 1741 to Scottish parents, and he was educated in London before becoming a sea captain. He sailed to Charleston, South Carolina in 1766, where he married a Kentish widow and made a new life for himself. He served in the Provincial Congress from 1775 to 1776 and served as a Commodore of the South Carolina Navy during the American Revolutionary War. After the war, he served in the US House of Representatives from 1793 until his death in 1794.
