Alexander Abercromby

Alexander Abercromby (4 March 1784 – 27 August 1853) was a British colonel.

Biography[]

The son of General Ralph Abercromby, Alexander Abercromby served in the failed Anglo-Russian invasion of the Batavian Republic in 1799 and in 1806 became the chief-of-staff of John Moore in Sicily. In 1808 he was made a Lieutenant-Colonel in command of the 28th Regiment of Foot and fought in the Peninsular War at the Battle of Talavera, Buscao, Torres Vedras, and Vittoria. In 1815 he fought at the Battle of Quatre-Bras and the Battle of Waterloo in the Seventh Coalition, and served in the Whig party in politics from 1817 to 1818.
