Aleksander Tonisson (17 April 1875-30 June 1941) was a Major-General of Estonia during the Estonian War of Independence.
Biography[]
Aleksander Tonisson was born on 17 April 1875 in Poora, Russian Empire. He served in the Russo-Japanese War and World War I in the Imperial Russian Army before joining the newly-formed Estonian Army in 1917 and fighting on the Riga front. During the Estonian War of Independence, he was given command of the Estonian 1st Division and defeated the Soviet Union at the Battle of Krivasoo on 18 November-30 December 1919. He was captured by the USSR after their conquest of Estonia on 17 June 1940 and executed on 30 June 1941.
