Murrieta was born in San Diego, California in 1813. He was raised in a very poor Mexican family alongside his brother Joaquin. In 1821, Alejandro and his brother met El Zorro (Don Diego de la Vega) who humiliated governor Rafael Montero in the square. Alejandro and Joaquin saved Zorro, and as a gift he gave them his medallion.
In 1841, Alejandro worked as a bandit with his brother and Three-fingered Jack, an American gunslinger. One day they met American soldier Harrison Love, a captain in the US Army, who worked for Montero as a mercenary. Love wounded Jack, and then he killed Joaquín. Alejandro escaped, swearing revenge on Love.
In a cantina in Los Angeles, he met Don Diego, and he realized that this old man was El Zorro. Diego helped Alejandro and trained him to become the new Zorro. That night he assaulted the fort who exploded. The next day, as Alejandro de la Vega, visited Montero at his home where he met Elena de la Vega, Montero's daughter who in reality was Diego's. Alejandro and Elena danced and after dinner he was invited by Montero to be his guest in a secret met. At the met, Montero revealed his real plans to purchase California using gold from slaves at the mine.
Alejandro as Zorro fought Montero and Love at the Hacienda and defeated both of them and his soldiers. At the gold mine, Alejandro fought Love and aveanged his brother stabbing him with his sword. Love was later killed by a wagon fulled with gold who fell off a cliff and crushed him. Montero was dragged away by the same wagon and crushed to death too.
After this, Alejandro and Elena saved the slaves and escaped from the explosion which destroyed the mine. Moments later, Diego died due to his mortal wounded injuries. Alejandro eventually married Elena, and they had a child named Joaquín de la Vega.
