Alejandro Sosa

Alejandro Sosa (died 1984) was a Bolivian drug lord. A wealthy landowner who was educated in England, Sosa had wide-reaching political and criminal connections, and he was one of the most powerful drug lords of the 1980s. In 1983, he was betrayed by his former partner Tony Montana due to Montana's refusal to kill journalist Matos Gutierrez while his kids were with him, and Sosa sent men to kill Montana. Montana fought them off, went into hiding, rebuilt his empire, and killed Sosa in a shootout at his mansion in Cochabamba in 1984.

Biography

Alejandro Sosa was born in Bolivia to a wealthy family of landowners, and he was educated in England. He became the business brain and drug overlord of an empire stretching across the Andes, possessing wide-ranging political connections and a large amount of money. Sosa was known to some as a great friend, and to others as a "snake". In 1980, he had Frank Lopez's right-hand man Omar Suarez hung from a helicopter after discovering that he had worked as an informant for the NYPD during the 1970s. He then went on to conduct business with Lopez's other associate, Tony Montana, as he appreciated his guts. The two would make large sums of money through their partnership in the cocaine business, and Sosa offered to use his political connections to save Montana from a prison sentence if Montana would assassinate Bolivian journalist Matos Gutierrez. However, Montana betrayed Sosa by killing his hitman Alberto Ruiz instead of killing the journalist, as his wife and kids were also present in his car. Sosa responded by sending hitmen to kill Montana at his mansion, and Montana was feared dead after the mansion shootout.

Downfall

However, Montana survived the shootout and would go on to rebuild his empire from scratch, taking down enemies such as the Diaz Brothers, Nacho Contreras, and Gaspar Gomez. Soon, Guzman and Montana's old lawyer George Sheffield approached Sosa for assistance in taking down Montana. Montana took over Miami after conquering the rival cartels' territories, and he flew out to Cochabamba, Bolivia to confront his enemies. At the mansion, he killed Sheffield and Guzman before confronting Sosa in his living room. There, Montana executed Sosa, destroying all of his enemies.
