Alda Bosonid

Alda Bosonid (1 February 920-15 September 967) was the wife of Alberic II of Spoleto, daughter of Hugh of Arles, and the mother of Pope John XII.

Biography[]

Alda was born on 1 February 920 to the Bosonids, a dynasty of Catholic Italians. She was the daughter of Hugh of Arles, and she married Alberic II of Spoleto, the nephew of Hugh by his brother Alberic I of Spoleto and Alberic's wife Marozia. She became Alberic II's sister-in-law after Marozia remarried to Hugh of Arles after the death of her husband Guy of Tuscany. Alda gave birth to the future Pope John XII in 937, and she died in 967 at the age of 47.
