Albio Sires (born 26 January 1951) was a member of the US House of Representatives (D-NJ 13) from 13 November 2006 to 3 January 2013, succeeding Bob Menendez, and from NJ 8 from 3 January 2013 to 3 January 2023, succeeding Bill Pascrell and preceding Rob Menendez.
Biography[]
Albio Sires was born in Bejucal, Cuba in 1951, and he emigrated to the United States in 1962 to flee Fidel Castro's communist regime. He settled in West New York, New Jersey, and he later became an immigrant success story, owning A.M. Title Agency Inc. In 1985, he switched his party affiliation from the Democratic Party to the Republican Party, but he returned to the Democrats in 1994 and served as Mayor of West New York from 1995 to 2006 and in the New Jersey General Assembly from 2000 to 2006. In 2006, he was elected to the US House of Representatives, and he was known as a champion of mass transit and affordable housing.
