Alberto Natusch Busch (23 May 1933-23 November 1994) was President of Bolivia from 1 to 16 November 1979, succeeding Walter Guevara and preceding Lidia Gueiler.
Biography[]
Alberto Natusch was born in Riberalta, Bolivia in 1933, the nephew of German Busch. He served in the Bolivian Army and rose to the rank of colonel, and he served as Agriculture Minister under Hugo Banzer. In November 1979, he overthrew Walter Guevara's democratic government to prevent the government from investigating the criminal and economic misdeeds of Banzer's officer corps. However, the population responded to the coup with a nationwide labor strike, and Natusch was forced to step down after great bloodshed and withdrew from public life. In 1981, he led a failed revolt against Luis Garcia Meza, and he died in 1994.
