Alberto Chaves was born to a Portuguese family and was one of the Chaves Brothers, older brother of Benito Chaves and Celio Chaves. He served in the Spanish Army with his brothers in Panama at Fort Alvo Grande, where he hunted pirates. They captured pirate Jack Sparrow in 1745, and they attempted to hang him, but with aid from his accomplices William Turner and Elizabeth Swann, Jack Sparrow escaped. Chaves and his brothers and guards attempted to stop them from escaping, but he was cut down and his key to the gates was stolen.
