Albert Wahl Hawkes (20 November 1878 – 9 May 1971) was a US Senator from New Jersey (R) from 3 January 1943 to 3 January 1949, succeeding William H. Smathers and preceding Robert C. Hendrickson.

Biography[]

Albert Wahl Hawkes was born in Chicago, Illinois in 1878, and he became a lawyer in 1900. During World War I, he served as director of the Chemical Alliance in Washington DC, and he served as President of Congoleum-Nairn, Inc. at Kearny, New Jersey from 1927 to 1942. That year, he was elected to the US Senate as a Republican Party member, and he served until 1949, when he retired from the US Congress. In 1961, he moved to Pasadena, California, and he died in Palm Desert in 1971 at the age of 92.
