Albert Smith White

Albert Smith White (24 October 1803 – 4 September 1864) was a member of the US House of Representatives (W-IN 7) from 4 March 1837 to 3 March 1839 (succeeding Edward A. Hannegan and preceding Tilghman A. Howard) and from IN 8 (R) from 4 March 1861 to 3 March 1863 (succeeding James Wilson and preceding Godlove S. Orth). He also served as a US Senator from 4 March 1839 to 3 March 1845, succeeding John Tipton and preceding Jesse D. Bright.

Biography[]

Albert Smith White was born in Orange County, New York in 1803, and he became a lawyer in 1825. He later moved to Lafayette, Indiana and served as clerk of the State House from 1832 to 1835, and he served in the US House of Representatives from 1838 to 1839, in the US Senate from 1839 to 1845, and in the House again from 1861 to 1863. He served as a Republican during his last term in the House, and he served as a judge until his death in 1864.
