Alan Williams Swansea West

Alan Williams (14 October 1930 – 21 December 2014) was the Labour MP for Swansea West from 16 October 1964 to 12 April 2010, succeeding Hugh Rees and preceding Geraint Davies.

Biography[]

Alan Williams was born in Caerphilly, Wales in 1930, and he worked as a broadcaster and a journalist before being elected to the House of Commons in 1964 as the Labour MP for Swansea West. He had a substantial personal vote over the years, being highly popular in what was traditionally a highly contested seat, and he was Father of the House from 2005 to 2010 as the longest-serving MP at the time. He died in 2014 at the age of 84.
