Al Indelicato

Alphonse "Sonny Red" Indelicato (25 February 1931 – 5 May 1981) was a caporegime of the Bonanno crime family who was best-known for his sensational murder in 1981 during the "Three Capos Murder" of 1981.

Biography[]

Al Indelicato's family came from Agrigento, Sicily, and was the ex-son-in-law of capo Charles Ruvolo. He worked as one of Cesare Bonventre's soldati and adopted his sunglasses from him, as well as cowboy boots, leading to him being nicknamed "Sonny Red". He was never respectful of Don Philip Rastelli, but least of all his caporegimes Joseph Massino and Sonny Black. In 1981, alongside Dominick Trinchera and Philip Giaccone, he plotted to kill the boss. At the 20/20 Night Club in Clinton Hill, a peace meeting was to be held on 5 May 1981. However, the meeting was interrupted when masked burglars entered the social club, pretending to rob Massino while forcing the capos onto the floor. Indelicato told the gunmen that they were dead men, as they were messing with capos, but Massino then insulted Indelicato as stupid and turned to shoot him in the face. The gunmen then shot off Trinchera's chest and Indelicato's back was also shot off by a shotgun fired by Vito Rizzuto as he tried to make for the exit. His death ended the conspiracy, as did the other men's deaths. He was buried in a lot in Lindenwood, Queens, but was discovered weeks later; the others were not found until 2004.
