al-Walid II (706-17 April 744) was Caliph from 743 to 744, succeeding Hisham and preceding Yazid III.
Biography[]
al-Walid was the son of Yazid II, and he succeeded Hisham on his death in 743. However, he faced a rebellion due to his reputed drinking (against the tenets of Islam) and in 744 Sulayman ibn Hisham's army defeated and killed him. He initially had the support of the future Marwan II, but Marwan later deserted to Yazid III.
