Al-Qadir

al-Qadir (943-1031) was the Caliph of the Abbasid Caliphate from 991 to 1031, succeeding at-Ta'i and preceding al-Qa'im.

Biography[]

al-Qadir was the son of Caliph al-Muttaqi, and in 991 he replaced the deposed caliph at-Ta'i, his cousin. During his tenure as Caliph Mahmud of Ghazni led the Ghaznavid Empire to power, but fortunately for al-Qadir, the Ghaznavids were divided by infighting after years of success. Mahmud died in 1030 and his family fought amongst themselves, so al-Qadir could reign independently. He died in 1031.
