Al-Qa'qa' ibn 'Amr al-Tamimi was a general of the mobile guard of the Rashidun Caliphate during the campaign in Syria and Palestine from 634 to 640.
Biography[]
Al-Qa'qa' ibn 'Amr al-Tamimi was born to the Banu Tamim tribe, which converted to Islam only in 631. al-Qa'qa' became an important commander of the Rashidun Caliphate during its wars of expansion, serving under Khalid ibn al-Walid at the 636 Battle of Yarmouk and under Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas at the Battle of al-Qadisiyyah that same year. Abu Bakr believed that he was as strong as 11,000 men, and Umar gave him only a handful of bodyguards as reinforcements for Sa'd at Qadisiyyah; he was one of the most illustrious Arab generals of the time.
