The al-Nasser Salah al-Deen Brigades are named after "the victorious Salah al-Din", the leader of the Saracens during the Third Crusade who defended the Near East from the crusaders and was hailed as a hero of Islam. The al-Nasser Salah al-Deen Brigades were founded in 2000 by Amer Qarmut, and they fought in the Second Intifada against Israel. They were responsible for several terrorist attacks, and their leader Immad Hammad was assassinated in 2011 in response to several suicide bombings targeted at Israeli civilians and Israeli Defense Force soldiers.
