al-Mustansir of Damanhur (1154/1157-) was a general of the Ayyubid Caliphate.
Biography[]
al-Mustansir of Damanhur was born in the city of Damanhour, Ayyubid Caliphate (present-day Egypt). He became a captain in the Saracen military under Sultan Saladin and fought against the crusaders in the Holy Land, and in 1178 he took command of a jihad army to the south of Jerusalem that was able to capture the city of Kerak from the Kingdom of Jerusalem. His success in the defeat of Jerusalemite armies around Ascalon led to him being adopted into the House of ad-Din, and he became a nobleman.
