al-Adil II (1221-9 February 1248) was Sultan of the Ayyubid Sultanate from 6 March 1238 to 1240, succeeding al-Kamil and preceding as-Salih Ayyub.
Biography[]
al-Malik al-Adil Sayf ad-Din Abu Bakr ibn Nasir ad-Din Muhammad was born in 1221, the son of Sultan al-Kamil of Egypt and the grandnephew of Saladin. al-Adil succeeded his father on his death in 1238, but the anarchy that beset Egypt led to his half brother as-Salih Ayyub usurping the throne in 1240. He would die in prison eight years later, having reigned for just two years.
