Akimoto Yanagi (1972-) was a Japanese man who lived in Kabukicho, Tokyo during the 2000s. He won the lottery in 2005, only to spend most of his winnings on the hostess Mizuki Yanagi. Kazuma Kiryu and Haruka Sawamura saved him from a suicide attempt after he grew distressed over his unrequited love for Mizuki. In 2006, Akimoto considered attacking Mizuki with a knife on a Kabukicho rooftop after he once again came to the conclusion that Mizuki might be using him for his money. In 2009, he and Mizuki got engaged and went on vacation to Okinawa, running into Kiryu again while partying on the beach next to his Morning Glory Orphanage. Kiryu followed them to make sure that their trip went well, and he ultimately found them arguing again after Akimoto once again accused Mizuki of using him for his money and being disingenuous about their engagement. Mizuki revealed her discovery that they were long-lost siblings, and, while Akimoto was initially crushed, he was overjoyed when he realized that she was his family, just as he wished, and they resolved to enjoy the rest of their vacation together.
