Akihisa Amako (1514-9 January 1561) was the daimyo of the Amako clan of Izumo Province.
Biography[]
Akihisa Amako was born in 1514 to Masahisa Amako, and he was the grandson of Tsunehisa Amako. His father was killed in 1518, and in 1537 Akihisa took control of the clan after coming of age. In 1537 he seized Iwami Province from the Ouchi, and it changed hands until it was firmly in Amako hands in 1541. In 1538 he marched as far as Harima Province during his campaigns. In 1540, with 30,000 troops, he attacked Koriyama Castle, the domain of Motonari Mori and the Mori clan of Aki Province. Motonari and an Ouchi relief force defeated his numerically-superior army, but from 1542-1543 he defended Gassantoda Castle from the Ouchi. In 1552 Shogun Yoshiteru Ashikaga recognized his control of much of western Japan, but in the 1550s the Mori became more powerful. In 1554, he had his uncle Kunihisa Amako murdered and his faction of the clan purged, as they gained power against Akihisa. In 1556 Motonari seized eastern Iwami, and they took the silver mines when Akihisa died in 1561. His son Yoshihisa Amako succeeded him.
